Chocolate Scones

“Scones” , this is my first attempt at making these and i have never eaten them earlier also so I have no idea as to how it should taste like. I had this recipe in my  diary and was reading it 2 days back, from then onward these scones were on my mind but was too lazy to prepare them( the actual reason is i was not sure I wanted to make them coz I dint know what to expect as I have never eaten them)

Mysore is a relatively small city when compared to metros and we do not have gourmet shops or high-end pastry shops around here. The regular cakes and pastries are found in any pastry shop around here. My knowledge of baking has only come thanx to the food blogs. sometimes it is very difficult to get hand on good baking ingredients for instance chocolate chips , I still can’t find it any food store or super market. But to set that aside and come to the actual recipe. The scones i prepared  had a nice crust on the top but were a bit soft on the inside. According to me it was mix btw a biscuit and a cake.

Chocolate Scones

Ingredients:

All Purpose Flour 1 cup

3/4 tsp baking powder

a big pinch baking soda

2 tbsp cocoa powder

5 tbsp sugar

60 gms butter

Chopped almonds 8 nos

chopped dark chocolate ( as much or little as u need)

1/2 tsp vanilla

100 ml milk

1/2 tsp vinegar

Method:

Mix milk and vinegar and set aside.

Sieve all the dry ingredients and mix nicely.

Make cubes of the chilled butter and add to the flour , mix it with your fingertips and don’t rub in the butter too much, it should be okay if u have some chunks of butter.

Add the chocolate chunks and chopped almonds.

Lastly add in the Milk mix slowly and form a dough. don’t work too much on the dough, just mix it till it all comes together.

Flour a work area and pat the dough into a circular shape. Cut it into wedges and place it on a greased and floured baking tray.

Bake at 170c for 20 mins.

cool on a wire rack and serve warm.

I drizzled some meted chocolate on the scones.

Note.

The scones were not very sweet so I drizzled some melted chocolate on the top. You can add  a couple of tbsp more sugar if you like it sweeter.
